Susan McGowan, BSW, MSW, RSW (NB, ON), RCSW is a Registered Clinical Social Worker with the Alberta College of Social Work. She worked as a therapist in Ontario for over 20 years before moving to Cold Lake in 2017.

Her private practice, Counselling in Cold Lake, includes working with children, adolescents, and adults who have experiences living with stress, depression, anxiety, addictions, and trauma. Susan is interested in helping people build upon their own strengths to learn to understand and to express their emotions.

 

To support people in meeting their goals, Susan helps them to learn new skills using a variety of techniques found in Mindfulness, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and EMDR. She has a special interest in working with families of military members and those who are no longer in military service as well as First Nations and Metis people.

 

Susan believes that self-compassion is the greatest gift that we can give ourselves. She strives to treat everyone with dignity, respect, and kindness regardless of their differences and similarities.

​Please check with your insurance provider regarding coverage for therapy with a Master’s Level Registered Social Worker. Approved provider for Veteran’s Affairs Canada and the Alberta School Employee Benefit Plan.

An EMDR Certified Therapist has engaged in at least 20 hours of consultation with an EMDR Consultant for EMDR and has practiced their skills with at least 25 different clients in at least 50 EMDR sessions. An EMDR Certified Therapist has voluntarily met standards of consultation, clinical practice, and continuing education to provide EMDR therapy. An EMDR Certified Therapist is committed to fulfill ethical standards and is engaged in continuing education. To maintain this certification, a therapist must continue to satisfy the EMDRIA requirement including completion of continuing education requirements and adherence to ethical standards.
