Heather Breed (RSW, MSW, BSW, BA) is a master level Registered Social Worker with the Alberta College of Social Workers. She has several years of experience providing counselling in high crisis environments to individuals and families who have been struggling for a long time with complicated mental health concerns.
In her practice, Heather provides individual and family counselling to adults, youth, and children who have been struggling with depression, anxiety, addiction, or are recovering from a traumatic event.

After years providing clinical services in an emergency shelter, Heather has a specific interest in working with children and youth who live with emotional and behavioural challenges. She works collaboratively with parents, schools, and other influential people in the child’s life to support desired change.

In her commitment to helping the Lakeland community learn about and heal from impacts of family violence, Heather has facilitated training to various local human services agencies and has published research with the Alberta College of Women's Shelters.

Heather uses strategies from the following therapeutic modalities to help people get relief from their problems: Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Solution-focused Therapy (SFT), as well as Play Therapy strategies.

Clients have shared that they appreciate that when they come to see Heather, they have the option of talk therapy, such as CBT, or non-talk therapy such as EMDR. She collaborates with clients to select treatment strategies that are based on their individual goals for counselling.

Heather believes that empathy, compassion, and understanding are the foundation for creating a safe, supportive, therapeutic environment. She works to provide a welcoming and respectful space for people of varying ethnicities, sexual orientations, religions, neuro-divergence, etc. In this environment, you will build upon your existing strengths, which may have felt buried by the overwhelm of life's challenges. You will build the skills and confidence to challenge your difficult thoughts and emotions and create long-term change.

Heather offers video, telephone, and in-person sessions. Please contact her for scheduling and other inquiries.
